Building Skills, Careers, and Community: Our Work with Redcar and Cleveland College
At Samuel Moore Roofing, we believe the future of our industry depends on skilled, passionate people. That’s why our director, Sam Moore, has been heavily involved with Redcar and Cleveland College for over a year — helping to train the next generation of roofers right here in Teesside.
Sam sees this partnership as a real benefit to the area and to the roofing trade as a whole. It’s not just about finding new workers — it’s about creating well-paid local jobs, upskilling people in our community, and building a stronger, more sustainable roofing ecosystem for the North East.
Training Local Talent
Since joining the college, Sam has been hands-on in supporting and mentoring apprentices both from Samuel Moore Roofing and from other local companies. This collaboration means that young people from across the region can learn a trade, gain real qualifications, and find long-term employment without leaving Teesside.
We’ve already seen great results. Nathan Binnall, one of our apprentices, recently qualified and was highly commendedin the BMI Apprentice of the Year Awards, placing second nationally. Nathan has taken to roofing like a duck to water — already completing complex projects and setting the bar high for others following behind him.
We currently have two more apprentices on track to qualify next year, and we couldn’t be prouder of their progress.
Collaboration Across the Industry
At Samuel Moore Roofing, we don’t just train our own team — we help train apprentices from other roofing companies too. Sam believes that by sharing knowledge and supporting each other, the whole trade benefits.
This approach is backed up by our involvement with the North East Roof Training Group, set up by CITB to promote skills development across the region. Our Contracts Manager, Ryan Mitchell, sits as Vice Chair on the board, which reflects our long-term commitment to training, standards, and collaboration.
Investing in Teesside’s Future
Good roofers are in high demand, and it’s vital we keep developing local talent to meet that demand. Through our work with Redcar and Cleveland College, and the support of groups like NERoofTG, we’re helping ensure Teesside has a pipeline of skilled, qualified roofers for years to come.
As Sam says:
“We deserve good, well-paid jobs in this area — and it starts with training people properly and giving them the opportunities to build a career.”
At Samuel Moore Roofing, we’re proud to be doing exactly that.
