Supporting Tier 1 Contractors With Roofing Works That Are Managed Properly
Samuel Moore Roofing recently completed a re-roofing project for Kier Construction on a bail hostel in Stoke, with the end client being the Ministry of Justice.
This project included a full re-roof, along with new fascia, soffits and guttering. It was the kind of job where the roofing work itself was only part of the requirement. The wider delivery mattered just as much.
Working with a Tier 1 contractor means understanding what is expected before anyone has to ask for it.
Site management, programme control, health and safety, access, deliveries, communication, cleanliness and quality control all matter. You cannot just turn up, fit a roof and leave the rest for someone else to sort.
On this project, we managed the works from start to finish. Materials were organised, access was planned, a forklift was used where required, and the site was kept clean and tidy throughout each stage of the job.
We also carried out our own snagging before the project team came round to inspect the work. That is something we take seriously. By the time a client or project manager is looking at the finished job, there should not be a list of obvious items waiting to be picked up.
Roofing works delivered with main contractor standards
For main contractors, the key deliverables are not just about the finished roof.
They need subcontractors who can:
Communicate properly
Work safely
Keep to programme
Manage their own areas
Keep the site clean
Deal with access and logistics
Work around other trades
Produce a quality finish
Close out snags quickly
Represent the contractor well to the end client
That is where we believe Samuel Moore Roofing can add value.
We are not just a roofing company that turns up with a van and waits to be told what to do. We understand the standards expected on commercial and public sector projects, and we know how important it is for a subcontractor to make life easier for the main contractor, not harder.
A clean, controlled and well managed project
The site was kept clean and tidy throughout the works, with regular checks carried out as the project progressed.
This matters on any job, but especially on live or sensitive sites where the client, the contractor and the wider team all need confidence that the work is being managed properly.
The roof was completed to a high standard, with the fascia, soffits and guttering finished as part of the wider package. The project managers and the Ministry of Justice client were happy with the finished result, and the way the works were managed has already led to discussions around future works.
That is always the best measure of a job.
Not just that it looks right on completion, but that the people responsible for the project would trust you to do the next one.
A strategic roofing and solar partner for main contractors
Samuel Moore Roofing and Samuel Moore Solar are well placed to support contractors across roofing, roofline, flat roofing, solar PV, battery storage and associated works.
With roofing and solar now sitting under one roof, we can help contractors deliver more joined up packages. That is especially important as more public sector, commercial and residential schemes look at renewables, energy efficiency and building fabric improvements together.
Roofing and solar are better together when they are planned properly.
For Tier 1 contractors, housing providers, public sector clients and commercial project teams, we can support with:
Pitched roofing
Flat roofing
Fascia, soffits and guttering
Lead work
Roof repairs and maintenance
Solar PV installations
Battery storage systems
EV charging
Project managed roofing and solar packages
Built for more than domestic roofing
Domestic roofing is still a major part of what we do, and we are proud of that.
But projects like this show the other side of Samuel Moore Roofing. The side that can work with larger contractors, manage commercial requirements, understand programme pressures, and deliver work to the standard expected by national construction teams.
The roof is the visible part.
The planning, management, communication, safety and quality control behind it are what make the project run properly.
That is what we aim to bring to every job.
