Yes, We Do Roof Repairs Too

Not every roofing job is a full roof replacement.

Sometimes it is cracked flaunching around a chimney stack. Sometimes it is a missing cowl, a slipped tile, a loose ridge, leaking guttering, or one of those small roof repairs that gets ignored until it turns into something bigger.

This job was a good example of that.

The flaunching around the chimney stack had cracked and there was no cowl fitted, leaving the top of the chimney exposed. It might not look like a huge job from the ground, but small issues around a chimney can soon start causing problems if they are left too long.

We removed the failed flaunching, renewed it properly, and installed a new clay chimney cowl to help protect the stack.

A small repair, but an important one.

Why chimney flaunching matters

Chimney flaunching is the mortar around the top of the chimney stack. Its job is to hold the chimney pots in place and help shed water away from the top of the stack.

Over time, flaunching can crack, break down or come loose. Once that happens, water can start getting into the chimney stack. In bad weather, that can lead to damp issues, loose pots, damaged brickwork and bigger repair costs later on.

It is one of those jobs that is much better dealt with early.

Why we used a clay chimney cowl

On this job, we fitted a clay chimney cowl rather than a metal one.

Yes, a clay cowl might be around £50 more expensive upfront, but it is usually the better long term option. A metal cowl can eventually rust, rot or break down with the weather, especially when it is exposed on top of a chimney all year round.

A clay cowl gives a more traditional finish, suits the chimney stack properly and is built to last. Over the lifetime of the roof, that extra cost at the start can work out cheaper than fitting a cheaper metal cowl and having to replace it later.

That is how we look at repairs. It is not always about using the cheapest part on the day. It is about using the right material, doing the job properly, and giving the customer better value over time.

We do repairs, not just full roofs

A lot of people think roofing companies only want the big jobs. Full re-roofs, extensions, flat roofs and larger projects.

We do those, of course, but we also carry out roof repairs.

Cracked flaunching, chimney repairs, missing cowls, slipped tiles, broken ridges, lead work, gutter repairs, storm damage and general roof maintenance are all part of what we do.

Big jobs, small jobs, and the awkward ones on top of a roof where nobody else wants to go.

We do them all.
